  During an incredible six months as a statehouse intern, I was able to cover a historic year for Illinois' General Assembly, during which a variety of issues were discussed. I focused on topics from abortion to education to raising the age citizens can legally buy tobacco products. This meant going to committee hearings and press conferences, tracking down and interviewing legislators with a wide range of views and localizing these stories for the Springfield and Sangamon County area.   As Editor in Chief, I managed a staff of roughly 20 people, including reporters, photographers, copy editors and cartoonists to put out a paper every Monday through Friday.Although we were relatively low-staffed at the beginning of the year, throughout the semester I was able to recruit people to various positions who regularly put out quality content.I also designed and edited the paper several nights a week, along with reporting, taking photos and keeping up The Daily Eastern News' presence on social media. During my last semester, I was able to get our website 500,000 hits, which was the most we had gotten during that time period at that point.
