The world of freelance is integral to journalism, but is also difficult to navigate. It is a place where you want to get things right and ensure that you can build your brand and skills in an increasingly competitive market. Anna Pratt serves as a tireless advocate and guide for those freelancers. Through her work as chair of SPJ's Freelance community, she has been a beacon to members who believe in journalism and want to better themselves in the world of freelance. Through events, blogs, interactions and other work, she has helped freelance journalists in their contributions to the profession. In addition through her work in SPJ's Minnesota chapter, she has been a tireless advocate for SPJ's values. I am always delighted at the work Anna does, because I know the work she does is making a difference to journalists not just in Minnesota, but beyond, and will continue to make a significant impact for the future.

I am not sure I can say enough about Anna to illustrate her commitment to making journalism a better profession, and by extension, making the news relevant and impactful for all of us. I know Anna from my time on the Society of Professional Journalists Freelance Community's newly founded Executive Committee. SPJ freelancers were new as a national community rather than a niche within local professional chapters. I saw Anna work to engage as many freelancers as possible, bringing them resources, planning relevant discussions, and addressing our unique process issues. She does it all with a smile, generously volunteering her time and energy while managing her own freelancing career, maintaining a great attitude even through the hiccups involved in restructuring an organization alongside overscheduled journalists. While I haven't been in a newsroom with her, I believe she would be a team player anywhere. If I can do anything in support of her, please reach out. You could also reach out to anyone in the SPJ Freelance Community and they would enthusiastically tell you the same.
