Steel Industries is a premier forge, heat treatment and machine company part of the larger Ameriforge group. We make forgings for nuclear power plants, aircraft, space, energy (oil, gas, etc.) and industrial use. I do a wide spread of metallurgical work including: specification review and application, writing heat treat processes, failure analysis, customer material complaints, material selection and quality control. I also work in-depth writing manufacturing plans, process plans and non-destructive testing plans.

Worked directly with internal and external customers to meet their needs. Hands on experience analyzing a wide array of samples. Visually examined samples using stereoscopes, microscopes, and an SEM. Developed innovative induction heat-treating techniques to meet customer specifications. Wrote comprehensive metallurgical reports. One of the larger projects included working on a cross-development team to develop a process which is used to induction surface harden and temper crankshafts for General Motors.

Performed X-ray Diffraction in order to analyze residual stress in forged parts. Cyclical mechanical fatigue testing on coil springs and stabilizer bars. Evaluated various part coatings via salt-spray corrosion testing. Performed failure analysis using a SEM coupled with EDX and lead root-cause inquiries.
