Geo at Enhance Energy. Responsible for anything rock based. Primary task here has been to develop a petrophysical model for the Clive Field, a Leduc and Nisku oil pool near Red Deer that dates back to the 1950's. The pool is pretty much drained using conventional means, and Enhance Energy have a plan to route 40 MMtons of CO2 into it and similar fields over the coming years. As you might expect, the fields need to be well understood before embarking on this half billion dollar scheme, so I have built high resolution models to be used in simulation programs. Getting this far also required a ton of petrophysics to be worked on, by me also (again, only one geo here - gotta multi-task), so that every ounce of available data could be used. I have now built three models for differrent fields for Enhance, so its time to go look at some real rock again. Developed a petrophysical tool to rapidly process multi-zoned well LAS in Excel. Tool incorporates standard petrophysical charts (Schlumberger) and well logs within a single Excel template. Calculations are based on Ross Crain's Toolboxes and subsequent conversion to work for LAS data by Bill May. It's not funny but it's true. Show less

Well, I did take 2 weeks off during this month. So To be honest, I didn't achieve very much. Well, I did take 2 weeks off during this month. So To be honest, I didn't achieve very much.

Wildcat exploration of the northern Slave Point Formation in the Northwest Territories. This was back in the day everyone expected the McKenzie Valley Pipeline to be finished within the next five years. Oh how naive. In the five years at Canadian Discovery I wrote 85 articles on new exploration in Western Canada for the Canadian Discovery Digest. All covering details of the development to date, land situation, production and, of course, lots of geology. With the help of an editor and graphic designer, these things were looking sweet towards the end of my run. I now have two heavy binders on my bookshelf at work that I am quite proud of - although they dwarf my thesis which was a piddly 60 pages - so I keep them on a different shelf. I should also mention here that I illustrated three year's of Digest covers with pastel works, as well as many of the diagrams amoung the pages. Show less
