I’ve decided to spend the next year or so going back to my roots and re-exploring the fascinating world of computer programming. Guru meditation is an error message shown by certain computer operating systems when things don’t quite go to plan. As a young programmer, it’s a message I saw quite a lot! But it taught me a valuable set of lessons: persistence, learning from failure, and how the smallest change can make the biggest difference. I’ve been fascinated by computers for as long as I can remember. I’ve taken them apart, I’ve put them back together - sometimes successfully - and I’ve even blown up the odd CPU. I’ve spoken to them in their native tongue of 0s and 1s using machine code and assembler. And, of course, I’ve simply observed. The thing that’s currently holding my attention, is the way certain fragments of code unintentionally group together to change lives in such positive ways. We never hear of these anomalies, even though we hear so much about unintentional bugs! So after a busy couple of decades bringing world-class software solutions to market, I’m excited to be going back to the basics, and re-lifting the lid on the mechanics of it all. And hopefully I’ll hit plenty of new error codes, and perhaps learn something new! Show less

I am particularly proud of the team at People. The software created by People is a unique administration system that takes creative care of the HR procedures within a business, and because it’s made up of all the things HR software has been missing over the years, I'm glad as an earlier stage investor I was able to inspire and guide the team at People to deliver such an exceptional platform and then later leading the team at People to become part of the Access Group.

Throughout my career facilitating software operations and bringing ideas to life, I’ve been proud to support a different way of working. This different way of working has been proven in the results I’ve seen from the variety of start-up projects I’ve helped to support and launch throughout my career, and I’ve managed to successfully encompass this in the Employee Handbook (https://www.peoplehr.com/files/PeopleHandbook.pdf) that was created for employees of People. In a nutshell, it highlights my passion for cutting through the red tape of business operations, and allowing true creativity and skill to outshine the hurdles put in place by more traditional hierarchies.
