Jennifer Shabel was a student in several of my classes. Since she graduated we have kept in touch via e-mail and had several extensive communications. Overall, I know her well. Jennifer is an exceptional person and student. She is one of the best students I have had. And, she has personal qualities that are outstanding. As a student, Jennifer gets very high marks on all of the usual dimensions. She has excellent speaking and writing skills. She is knowledgeable, a hard worker, intelligent, and personable. She also has a passion for learning and a commitment to the subjects she studies, qualities that even the brightest students often lack. Additionally, Jennifer has remarkable analytical skills. She makes difficult subjects seem easy. Jennifer has impressive personal qualities. She enjoys conversation and exploring new subjects. She is a good listener and sensitive to the ideas of others. She is informed about current events, takes positions that are well-reasoned, and truly cares about social issues. Overall, she would like to make this a better world and has mapped out a plan to do so. That said, her goals are tempered by both a good knowledge of how the real world operates and of how she fits into the overall scheme of things. I can’t think of a better person that I would want working with or for me. I give her my highest recommendation. Adrian F. Aveni Professor of Sociology October 21, 2012
