I worked as part of the Future Students team which was the first point of contact for prospective students of ECU. My responsibilities included providing prospective students with course information and entry pathway advice. I listened to their needs and concerns, over the phone, via email and in person, and used knowledge of university procedures to respond appropriately and accommodate their needs. This role involved working across ECU's Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses, as well as working at various event locations to promote ECU. Melanoma Research Project

I worked with a team on melanoma cell lines doing cell culture, DNA and RNA extraction, purification and sequencing to examine various mutations. I used other techniques such as flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry to examine cell surface markers. This was done to confirm previous research carried out by ECU, and examined how mutations affected resistivity or sensitivity to certain drug therapies.

I represented ECU in China gaining valuable experience in communicating with the students at Tianjin Medical University. I presented an insight into life at ECU and Australia to the students and spoke on behalf of ECU to thank the President of Tianjin Medical University for accommodating us. This experience allowed me to gain understanding of how medical science and healthcare operates at an international level, as well as an insight into a different culture.
