S.A.M Jahan is a colleague of mine at AFP for the last six years. He is the brightest Bangladeshi journalist and perhaps its best all-rounder, adept at reporting in all formats including text, video, image and fact checking. He has done a series of features and news stories on the aspects of Bangladesh that are little touched by most reporters. He was the first reporter to be at the scene when the Rohingya exodus began from Myanmar hours after a military crackdown in Rakhine. He has won couple of human rights awards jointly given by the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' Club and the Amnesty International. His video reports have won rave appreciations from AFP. He is young but already at this age he has emerged as a top multi-platform journalism trainer in the country. It has been an honour to be his colleague.

Mr Jahan is a hardworking journalist with impeccable editorial judgement. I had the opportunity to work with him on several issues during my tenure as a communication professional. I can sum up by saying that not only did he research his subject matter very thoroughly, but he did so with competence and enthusiasm which made it a pleasure to work with him. He is versatile in all different forms of journalism which is exceedingly rare in the country. I particularly like his way of effortless storytelling.

I've worked with SAM for over two years at the Daily Star newspaper. Since getting to know him back in 2013, my respect for him as a journalist and a humble human being has been growing. In my capacity as his supervisor and later as a journalist colleague in Bangladesh, I witnessed the making of a very professional and dedicated journalist in him. I found him to be very hard-working and an excellent team player. What makes him stand out of the pack is his readiness to learn. He was not happy sitting back at office editing copies, and insisted that he goes out for spot coverage. He was the first person to embrace the idea of a mobile journalist when we launched our multimedia platform at the Daily Star. His drive to learn soon turned him into a 360 journalist. I've seen SAM supervise juniors in every way possible, demonstrating his leadership skills and know-how. He is a go-getter; resilient, full of optimism, reliable and someone who knows how to handle tough situations at work. When faced with challenges, he makes sure to find solutions to them. Self-driven, SAM is a very cooperative person. It was my privilege to work with such a creative humble person!
