I recently served as NCOIC of 169 FW Student Flight, managing approximately 60 new trainees and enlistees, including prior service transfers, teaching Air Force Core Values, Airman's Creed, Air Force Song, rank structure, physical fitness basics and preparation for Air Force Basic Training. We also bring in valuable speakers and educators from around the Wing, including key civilians that bring important information and training, i.e. employment advisors, World War II vets, key personnel from the different units (pilots, First Sergeants, Command Chiefs, etc.), and other resources. I perform administrative and personnel functions, such as creating military id cards, updating personnel records, preparation and updating of SGLI insurance paperwork, etc. In September 2019, I was selected as a First Sergeant for the 245th Air Traffic Control Squadron, a unit within the 169th Fighter Wing at McEntire JNGB. This role serves as a primary liaison with the Commander over the Enlisted force for the unit, ensuring the Enlisted are deployment ready and that the Commander's leadership and focus/mission is accomplished.

This program takes both non-prior service and prior service men and women that have recently joined the SCANG and trains them in basics about the US Air Force, military culture, history of the Air National Guard and the SCANG, drill and ceremony, physical fitness, memorization work for Basic Military Training, uniform dress and appearance and other important tasks, information, and cultures. The program was designed to better prepare and increase the success rate for men and women attending and graduating from Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. This program also assists prior service members in acclimating with a new military branches culture and the family of the SCANG prior to attending a technical school. I work with a 2d Lt who serves as the OIC for the unit. She and I have worked towards making the program more efficient, organized and strengthening the ability of the program to be turned over to the next Cadre that will relieve us at the end of our respective tours. It is an honor and privilege to be able to assist in the training, mentoring and guiding of the next generation of the SCANG family. It is allowing me to go beyond my comfort zone and learn new abilities, tasks and processes that I hope will grow and strengthen my career with the US Air Force and SCANG.
