Working with Steve has been great for the last several years. As an account team leader for our clients, being able to collaborate with him on creative strategy and planning has been tremendous. Not just focusing on one campaign or ask, but working together with the team to see the bigger picture, the bigger story and idea - and most importantly how it all works together. With Steve's creative leadership, we've continued to put out amazing work for our clients that helps them succeed and stay leaders in their industries. On top of being smart, thoughtful and a great creative, Steve is fun to work with and solution-driven. I'm thankful to be able to work with Steve, I've learned a lot from him.

Steve was a great creative partner during my time at CMD. He was a key figure in helping drive the teams to be strategic and creative in their concepting and execution, and never let ego get in the way of doing good work. He continually did more than what was expected of him, from concept development to tweaking a line of copy in a small ad. I am confident he will be successful as a creative writer and/or director, no matter where he lands. I would welcome the opportunity to work with him again, in any capacity.

I was the lead creative responsible for creative brand execution at our Portland office. I returned to HMH at the leadership level and was tasked with rebuilding our department to support our growth, to reflect an evolving industry and our evolving clientele, and to handle expanding project scopes. As the Group Creative Director, my role included collaborating with account leads and planning teams on strategic development, writing and developing creative and project briefs, providing creative direction, and ensuring client work is on-brand. In addition to providing creative leadership for projects and campaigns across the agency, I helped with conceptual development and copywriting when needed. I enjoyed using my strategic thinking and organizational skills to set the creative direction of the agency, while maintaining flexibility to be able to capitalize on unanticipated opportunities. This was important as the agency expanded its experience in transportation to embrace future technologies. Primary Clients: Daimler Trucks North America, Meritor, Portland General Electric, TriMet, Structurlam, Impartner, Central Oregon Visitors Association * Crafted strategic plan and overarching messaging for Western Star’s new three-vehicle launch, as well as created and wrote all marketing materials. * Directed, named and helped develop marketing elements for Portland General Electric’s Full Clean Ahead green initiative. * Guided creation of Blue Horizon, Meritor’s new electric power division, as well as Meritor’s updated brand look and voice. * Fueled evolution and development of TriMet’s Hop FastPass, their new digital-based fare system. I transformed a former freelance role into a permanent position after demonstrating strong strategic thinking and the ability to develop unique creative solutions to client challenges. a strong work ethic, the ability to quickly develop client knowledge. This position put me into a role of high-level creative direction and team management, along with collaborating with account and planning leads on strategic development and brand strategy. I also wrote creative and project briefs, provided creative direction, and ensured client work was on-brand. This role also gave me the opportunity to lead 17 people in two offices located across the country. One of my biggest achievements was leading remote groups while building team unity during a complete re-imagining of a major consumer brand. We got it done and I was proud of what we accomplished. One of the interesting aspects of this job was working with national consumer brands and giving business-to-business clients a consumer brand mindset and voice. I provided concepts, copywriting and creative leadership for projects and campaigns across the agency, presented work and acted as a creative liaison between the agency and client, and led new business pitches. Primary Clients: Daimler Trucks North America, JELD-WEN, Banner Bank, Columbia Sportswear, NW Natural, Intel, Detroit Diesel * Led creation and execution of two new vehicle launches for the Western Star division of Daimler Trucks North America, their first in more than a decade. * Directed rebranding of JELD-WEN Windows and Doors, updating the entire collateral system, advertising, web presence, in-store displays and tagline, as well as product naming. * Produced brand update for Banner Bank, which included brand look, voice, branch signage, and advertising, as well as managed work supporting their accelerated branch expansion program. I provided training and mentoring to team members during an economic recession that made staffing levels exceptionally lean. We had to do more with less, so I helped the agency work toward best practices and strategies to optimize our operations, helping craft strategic plans and briefs while ensuring work quality remained high. Ultimately, the company ended up falling victim to greater economic circumstances and closed. While there, I provided concepts, copywriting and creative leadership for multiple projects and campaigns. I was recruited to this company and led a team of eight creatives in the Phoenix office, while also collaborating with the Las Vegas and Salt Lake City offices on national accounts and new business opportunities. The chance to work on some of these larger accounts and pitches, as well as managing a young team, proved to be excellent learning experiences. While there, I also handled strategic development, brief creation, creative direction, development of brand assets and client presentations before the impending economic recession resulted in budget cuts that required me to find a new position. For this position, I was recruited into a newly-created role with the task of adding greater conceptual skill to the agency. I oversaw the creation and establishment of the direction of brand and product campaigns, presented creative work to clients, and ensured that junior-level creatives adhered to brand tone, voice and visual execution. This also required building up our staff skill levels, so I mentored six team members. This marked the first time I had management oversight over staff and I really enjoyed the ability to help them develop their careers and skill sets to reach their fullest professional potential. I also learned how to better calibrate talent matches to role responsibilities to ensure they had the opportunities where they ultimately were most successful.
