Nikki Kirk previously worked for me in her role in the Academic Affairs office at Berklee College of Music. I managed Nikki during her time at Berklee, and have maintained a connection with her as she transitioned in her career. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Nikki and to watch her evolve as a leader. Nikki is an incredibly talented, insightful, and compassionate person. She is serious and motivated. She is able to manage multiple competing priorities but perhaps most important, she is able to think creatively and thoughtfully about the implications of how she handles her work. As a leader and contributor to multiple projects and initiatives, Nicki was consistently able to bring out the best from any team. The evidence of her ability to nurture and guide a range of profiles was apparent in the way that she consistently and evenly worked with a diverse and at times challenging groups of individuals. She recognizes the diverse and broad characteristics of a group of people, and possesses an incredible amount of patience. Despite the many challenges that will inevitably arise when working with people from very different backgrounds, Nikki was able to navigate difficult conversations while also recognizing and acknowledging the strength of these differences. She stepped up in so many ways in her work in my office. Nikki was able to handle and spearhead several new initiatives in her work with me. She was able to quickly identify the larger goals of a new project and just as quickly develop a strategy built from scratch to approach these new initiatives. She is a quick study and frequently pinpointed more productive and efficient ways to get to the ultimate goal. I have been consistently impressed with Nikki’s intelligence, heart, enthusiasm, and drive. Nikki represents that rare combination of having skill and passion, while also understanding the essence of hard work. Nikki is a talented mentor and guide for any team.

Nikki is someone who is genuine, thoughtful, and intentional with each step of her work. She cares for the communities she serves, while creating and managing programs that are critical and effective. Working with Nikki for a year, I was genuinely grateful to have such a caring, attentive, and compassionate manager and thought partner. As a manager, she is clear and communicative while empowering those around her to speak up during collaboration and making space for those around her share their ideas. I always felt respected and listened to, while also having space for constructive feedback and how I can be better as an arts administrator in the field. Working closely on a team with her, Nikki and I created systems and structures that would best support how we navigated our programs together. Coming into her role, Nikki made sure to create strong foundations and systems that would contribute to the longevity of the programs we worked on together. I could not recommend Nikki more in any space she moves into, as she is such a delightful and incredible person to work with.
