After taking an enjoyable short break off over the summer holidays, I'm so pleased to now be working with the investment team at Big Issue Invest, who are the social investment arm of The Big Issue and one of the UK's leading providers of finance to social enterprises, charities and businesses that are socially driven. Like our parent company, The Big Issue, Big Issue Invest aims to help people to help themselves by investing in business-like responses to social problems, with self help and prevention at their core. Big Issue Invest's mission, which mirrors my own passion is to financially back sustainable social enterprises and ventures that help tackle poverty and inequality. Big Issue Invest finances organisations across all sectors including jobs, education and training; health and social care; community development; financial inclusion and advice; the arts; and the environment across the UK. Please do get in touch if you are seeking financial support to scale up and looking for finance between £50,000 - £1 million and have a high social impact, a track record, a sound business plan to increase trading income that will deliver long term profitability and social impact.. Also, if you are a provider of finance, social or traditional high street, do get in touch, we have experience in working on syndicated deals and also very interested in sharing deals where appropriate. Our mission and approach is based on the fundamental belief that economic activity can and should have a positive impact on society, the environment and culture. My role and passion, is to connect with those businesses and organisations who have/are developing a sustainable business model, or who have an affiliation with our work. To broaden their understanding of how powerful it could be to review their current banking arrangements and see what their money is actually achieving and consider the additional benefits it could be achieving with Triodos - contributing to a more sustainable world, as well as receiving a financial return which can only make, ‘good business sense’. See here: http://www.triodos.co.uk/en/about-triodos/triodos-bank-in-one-minute/?osc=osc-bb-right-triodos-bank-in-one-minute-box-030412 Basically, we only lend ‘real’ money entrusted to us by savers, so there’s no need for us to borrow from other banks. Our lending is 100% ethical. We lend only to people and organisagions we believe in; what an enterprise sets out to do, and what motivates the people behind it, is our primary consideration, examined before a loan’s financial viability is even considered. We support organisations working in areas ranging from Fairtrade and organic farming to renewable energy and recycling. Some are national names, including Ecotricity and Cafédirect; while the impact of others is felt more locally, like community groups, leisure and cultural activities and village shops. We are 100% transparent and publish details of every organisation we lend to, which means our savers can see how Triodos is using their money, building a direct relationship between them and the businesses and charities their money is supporting; evidence that a social, environmental and financial return has/is being achieved.
