In this position I was given the role of a distance education support member. A majority of our courses in the School of Information Science are offered online and synchronously, so I provide technical support for professors during their teaching through our online platform Zoom. In this position I also communicate with coworkers about schedule changes and additional technical support, and record classes in order to upload content for student access.

      • Aug 2017 - Jul 2018

In this position I was paired with a professor in the School of Information Science to assist with various tasks. Throughout my time as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, I helped my professor with tasks such as research for scholarly papers, organization of online course Canvas website, and review of preliminary research and light proofreading. This was a year assistantship with this professor, and thus why I had to leave this position.

In this position I am worked in the Digital Productions Department and helped digitize materials given to us by those needing items from the University digitized. I learned about the specifications of scanning, specifically the FADGI guidelines that we started implementing for high quality scans. I was trained to use Silverfast Ai 8, EPSON Expression 10000 XL scanner, and a Fujitsu document feeder scanner. In this line of work, I was exposed to documents, photographs, negatives, sheet music, and theses/dissertations and learned the proper protocol and procedures for the digitization of these materials. While completing my undergraduate degree, I had the opportunity to work alongside the staff at the Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County library in downtown Hattiesburg. I was trained in most aspects of the library, with most of my time spent between the children's desk and circulation. I learned valuable skills such as the day to day operations and expectations of librarians, and interacting with younger patrons and developing those interactions to promote the library. I was trained in the technology that was implemented in this library as well, such as WorkFlows and all of the different departments that can be used by this system. Show less
