Ridiculously efficient and humble is what comes to mind when thinking about Matt. He singlehandedly designed and delivered tools that greatly improved the efficiency and reliability of a whole data pipeline. He was able to abstract the complexity out and enabled the Analytics team to improve their efficiency hugely. Matt can naturally listen and ask the right questions to move any project forward. I met Matt right before joining Metrika as its CTO, in the summer of 2020. At the time, Matt was finishing high school and was just about ready to start college at WPI. One of the first things I noticed about Matt was that, despite his (obvious) lack of experience and young age, he was completely defiant of any limits those might pose in the tasks he undertook, delving into whatever technology, library or methodology was asked of him and finishing the work in record time and exceptionally high quality. Early on, I remember asking him to do a spike on Kafka, more for him to get acquainted with the technology, than help out the team. Matt had no prior experience with Kafka at the time. He protested, telling me that he had no idea where to start and that he wasn't sure he'd be able to come up with good answers in the limited time a spike is supposed to take, but went ahead to deep dive and come back with very solid answers, in a very reasonable amount of time. From frontend, to backend development , to infrastructure/systems, programming languages, and distributed systems, I saw Matt picking up tons of knowledge within mere months and punching well above his weight, working comfortably with a team of senior engineers with years of experience. In the months since joining Metrika full-time in 2022, Matt quickly became a respected, indispensable member of Metrika's Engineering team, working on complex projects that power the core functionality of the platform, as well as contributing significantly in every technical and architectural discussion we had as a team. Beyond his technical prowess, what truly stands out about Matt is his genuine, affable nature and can do attitude.
