The Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers and Children of Salinas (CHAMACOS) Study is the longest running longitudinal birth cohort study of pesticides and other environmental exposures among children in a farmworker community. CHAMACOS means “little children” in Mexican Spanish, which reflects the population we serve. Coordinated an extensive literature review of enzymes involved in aging and the impact of these enzymes on mitochondrial monocarboxylate transport. Data collected was used for a comprehensive aging map. Presented on different enzymes and metabolic pathways involved in the overall human aging process in monthly meetings. Research in collaboration with sponsor, Aspira Scientific, and The Dean F. Toste Group at the University of California, Berkeley. Synthesized 4-hydroxy-2,6-bis(4isopropylphenyl)dinaphthol[2, 1-d: 1’,2’-f] [1,3,2] dioxaphosphepine 4-oxide in the interest of determining the functionality and strength of chiral phosphoric acids as a class of organocatalysts in enantiomeric transformations and phase-transfer catalysis. Final product obtained and spectroscopic data collected were used by a graduate student in The Dean F. Toste group in defense of research suggesting alternatives to metallocatalysts in the synthesis of medicinally useful drugs. Research study linked below. Data available upon request. Show less

Coordinated an exhaustive (> 53,133 occurrences) literature search of spatially explicit data from the geographic ranges of 457 parasite species. Data collected was used to predict extinction rates for eight major parasite clades on the basis of climate driven habitat loss by 2070. Credited for my work in a paper published by The Wayne Getz Lab in 2017 by the Royal Society Open Science (DOI:10.1126/sciadv.1602422). Compiled spatial and temporal data to mathematically model transmission of P. falciparum by A. gambiae in Africa. Under the assistance and training of Colin Carlson, PhD, I used software including Maxent and R to create disease and species distribution models that better allow researchers to understand the incidence and prevalence of malaria in Africa. Used NOVA software to design a Markov Chain Monte Carlo model simulating the parasitic relationship between A. mellifera and V. destructor; this was done in an effort to understand APV (Acute Paralysis Virus) and DWV (Deformed Wing Virus) transmission. I have also worked with the University of Oslo on data gathering for the 2014 Z. ebolavirus outbreak. Show less
