Emily is strategic, organized, brilliant, and has superb communication skills. She is adept at figuring out what it will take to do a job and doing it. I worked with Emily on a partnership between a major conservation NGO and a major private health company. Emily was able to develop and maintain a great relationship with the donor despite constant changes to program staff. When I came on, as the third project manager in 4 years, she was able to bring me up to speed, had organized files documenting everything important, and was really the anchor to the entire project.

There we were in New York City after the events of 9/11 and facing one of the city's worst economic downturns in history. With both the dot com crash, and the 9/11 tragedy, many of our friends and colleagues were displaced from their jobs. With little hope of finding new work in such a dire climate, the idea of a campaign for employment called WeWantWork was born. Emily became the backbone of this world famous effort to help New Yorkers find jobs. She put her many years of marketing experience to work for a cause that not only helped raise the spirits and find jobs for the 43 participants, but showcased the difficult job market in the post-9/11 city to the world. Undeterred by having zero budget, she helped find sponsors for the campaign, tracked results with detailed perfection and was able to put in context and communicate the value of WeWantWork to participants, press and potential employers. And the results were spectacular! Headlines were won (The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, BBC, CNN, and more!), awards were secured (Seth Godin awarded the campaign a Purple Cow), the mayor of New York City loved it, and jobs were secured for participants! Other WeWantWork groups were inspired around the country, and the effort became a New York story of legend. What she did was stay positive, work tirelessly and succeed in turning a very depressing situation into an incredibly positive experience for all involved.
