Anne is a sports journalist that is able to go beyond the daily game story to give her audience an emotional connection to the athletes. I've been impressed with Anne's willingness to adapt and learn new skills. As the anchor of our Friday Night Live football coverage, she was funny while also handling a lot digital traffic from staff and readers. Anne was sent to cover the US luge team in the Winter Olympics and was great at sharing on social media as events happened. This was a great benefit to her audience because the events were not shown live on TV in the U.S. Anne was also a pleasure to work with.

I am a member of the 99%. No, not that 99%. (Though, I guess I'm a member of that one too.) But I'm actually referring to the 99% of sane humans who have zero interest in the Utica, NY local sports scene. Yet, I am an avid reader of Utica's Observer-Dispatch. That is for one reason only: Anne Delaney writes for that paper. I have been reading Anne's work since we were classmates at St. Bonaventure University in the '90s. (I'll will omit which part of the '90s.) While at SBU, Anne accomplished the seemingly impossible task of writing entertaining articles about the Bonnies' less than stellar athletic department. She is insightful, colorful and knowledgeable. It, therefore, came as no surprise to me that she was capable of crafting stories about upstate New York field hockey that are unquestionable must-reads. In addition, many of her articles and blog posts contain her self-depracting wit. My favorite remains the story about how, during her youth, her mom would grade her in-church behavior. As the co-ower of a humor book publishing company, I have great appreciation for anyone who can write a funny line, but Anne's consistency is truly impressive. She, in fact, was of great assistance with two of our books: Things That Might Annoy . . . A Yankee Fan and Things That Might Annoy . . . A Jets Fan. And should we ever do a book entitled Things That Might Annoy . . . A Utica Chieftains Fan, Anne will surely help Simply put, Anne is part of the 1%. No, not that 1%. (Though, she surely deserves to be.) She's part of the 1% who truly knows how to write very well. And, lucky for me, she's also a fantastic friend.

Anne Delaney has been a colleague of mine since June 2007. Anne shows dedication to her work on a daily basis. As a sports reporter at the Observer-Dispatch, Anne covers a number of sports and brings a fresh perspective to each she covers. Anne traveled to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver to cover Erin Hamlin, a local luger from Remsen, N.Y. Anne truly cares for the subjects she writes about and follows them intensely whether working or not. Since the O-D's sports and news copy desks merged into a universal desk in early 2010, Anne has helped guide myself and the other copy editors new to sports in many ways. Anne is a wonderful colleague and I'm glad to work with her.

I cover education focusing on Greeley-Evans School District 6 based in Greeley and Weld RE-4 School District based in Windsor while trying to expand the coverage area of the newspaper and website (www.greeleytribune.com) to include more information on other school districts in Weld County. In this beat, I write stories about education — from news and issue-related stories to features. I correspond with school district officials, such as superintendents and public information officers, to find stories and to maintain an idea of what is happening. This also includes looking at websites and social media pages and, at times, attending meetings in person or watching online. Show less

I cover breaking news in the Greeley area, including maintaining contact with local law enforcement and fire officials to inquire about newsworthy incidents. I also find a wide-range of feature stories for Greeley Tribune audience ranging from a Sunday centerpiece story on human trafficking in northern Colorado to interesting stories about people in the Greeley area.
