The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - Safety Ambassador Program trains high school students (Safety Ambassadors) to educate 1st and 2nd graders in their respective communities about safe practices to promote fall prevention, pedestrian safety, safety in and around cars, and wheeled sports safety. The program educates young children about safety while providing high school students opportunities to improve self-confidence, verbal communication, presentation skills, and leadership. The Safety Ambassador Program was conceived in 2008 when just five Middlesex County school districts participated. Since then, we have grown to expand outside of Middlesex county and include Somerset, Bergen, Ocean, and Essex county, with plans to promote this education across the state in the future. As the program coordinator, it is my duty to ensure our student audience receives the full education of the program and has fun while doing it. • Orthopedic Patient Education Intern
      • Jan 2022 - Apr 2022

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) sets its mission behind the improvement of health and well-being for all patients and communities. They aim for the highest quality and evidence-based patient care. As an Orthopaedic Patient Education Intern, I was educated on the importance of patient education. There is clear evidence and research that displays the benefits of this, during healing. Educating a patient on the surgical process before, during, and after, has displayed significant improvement in long-term recovery. During my time at RWJUH, I developed a patient satisfaction survey, which I would use to interview patients on the new cold therapy hip wrap. RWJUH practices a multimodal pain relief approach by planning toward non-opioid analgesic forms of healing. I also worked beside Kyala Pascual (Joint Care Coordinator), observing and assisting with her day-to-day tasks. » Developed a patient satisfaction survey to analyze the new addition of a Cold Therapy Hip Wrap» Created patient education packets for joint and spine patients » Attended and engaged in meetings with all teams within surgical unit» Assisted developing a Joint Care Guidebook for patients to educate themselves on the surgical process (what to expect, pain expectation, etc.)» Tracked and analyzed trends in Cold Therapy Hip Wrap distribution and usage » Networked with colleagues in the hospital » Collaborated with NAON and Rutgers ESG to create a Ukraine public service event Show less
