Completed the design and development of an emulsifier which led to the establishment of a new international customer for Clariant in the mining explosives market. Developed a new laboratory analysis methods using FTIR to detect small levels of un-reacted starting material in a major product. This allowed optimisation of a manufacturing process earning over $10 million per year. I investigated and discovered the root cause of a problem with a high explosives product, which assisted the company to retain sales of over $1 million to a key gold mining customer. I developed a model for determining the density of emulsion explosives under pressure in deep boreholes. This was important to ensure that the explosives would reliably detonate for customers at their mine sites. I designed a method to remove a metal ion from a liquid fertiliser product, which saved our market share of over $4 million against competing imported products. I designed and developed an award-winning nitrocellulose based gun propellant, marketed as “IMR Trail Boss” in the USA.
