    • ESL Teacher Assistant
      • Feb 2013 - May 2013

Teaching English as a second language to children ages 7 to 9. This school primarily speaks Euskara in the classroom but the children are also fluent in Castilian Spanish. I had the opportunity of full immersion into the local school environment, meet local people, and have firsthand exposure to the local community. USAC has made an agreement with an association of private schools in the area, so that students can work as conversation assistants to English teachers in those schools. My experience as an ESL teacher assistant was fun and educational. It was really great how excited the children are to see you when walking into a classroom and experiencing how the Spanish school systems work. I was able to help them practice pronunciation and plan activities that made it fun for them to learn new words. Being able to help students learn another language is a really rewarding experience. Worked closely with software designers and program managers to understand more about what Sherpa is meant to do, her key features and who will use it. Asked multiple sets of generic questions in varying ways. I also made my own questions to try and "break" her. The ultimate goal was to iron out any bugs and improve the quality of the finished product.
