This position enabled me to further develop key writing, interviewing and newsgathering skills whilst demonstrating my ability to meet tight deadlines and produce accurate, clean and engaging copy to house tone and style. Highlights of my portfolio include covering the Queen’s speech, a six-page accessories feature on the Duchess of Cambridge (which made the cover) and interviews with celebrities including Kate Garraway, Myleene Klass, Roman Kemp and Joel Dommett. I was invited back for a second week at BBC South News and was tasked with producing a video for the Digital Video Unit aimed at an online, female audience. I came up with some potential stories, before getting approval to run with a story about alopecia for Alopecia Awareness Month. I researched, set up interviews, filmed and interviewed the two women and edited the piece. I also re-edited a piece for online called 'Theme Park Therapy' which previously ran on the BBC South Today news programme - (made BBC website front page/BBC South Instagram and Facebook page and was the most viewed video that day). Alopecia Video Achievements/Stats: • Posted on BBC News instagram (350k views) • Posted on BBC South Facebook and Instagram pages • Made the front page of the BBC website on the day it went live • Was featured under 'Top Stories' on the BBC News app • Was featured under 'Most Watched' on the BBC News App • Ran on BBC South News 6pm programme. • Ran on 'Spotlight' programme for South West viewer • Ran on Radio Dorset in the morning Show less

I spent a week at BBC South News in Southampton, shadowing members of the team in both their radio and television departments, going out on location and watching the live outputs of both their radio breakfast show and 6pm news broadcast. My greatest achievement was editing a video about alpaca farming for their digital video unit, which was posted on their BBC channels and national homepage. I have been invited back for another week in September.
