Valini worked for me as an Associate Professional between 01 February 2016 and 06 January 2017 at The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC). During her time at the SRC Valini worked as a GPS technician with responsibility for monitoring data coming from different GPS receivers around the Caribbean region and for processing that data to determine the movement of the Caribbean plate. These duties involved learning to use a command-line driven academic software suite running on the Linux operating system. Despite unfamiliarity with Linux or the GAMIT/GLOBK software Valini took up the challenge successfully. Valini is intelligent and possesses good communications skills, both verbal and written. She has also shown good team working skills. In addition to her scientific duties, Valini also volunteered for the SRC events committee and helped coordinate and deliver a number of events for the SRC. I am also aware that Valini has a passion for the oil and gas industry. In her downtime, she constantly worked to upgrade her skills in this area through online courses. Given her high level of ability and drive, I highly recommend Valini.

Valini is an exceptional Geoscientist with an impressive educational background and work-history. I have worked with her on the GSTT's Board where she served as a Director, the Editor-in-Chief of the Society's quarterly magazine, The Hammer and Lead on the Publications and Communications Committee. Her impressive work ethic, meticulous approach to managing projects, proactiveness and her natural leadership skills all stood out. I found it very refreshing and easy to work with Valini and many colleagues expressed the same sentiments. In fact, the magazines produced under the leadership of Valini were in my opinion, the best ever released by the GSTT in terms of pertinent technical content, modern design, industry applicability and marketability. She also introduced many new segments as in the Career Pivots which highlighted Geoscientists who successfully transitioned into new fields, digital transition articles, regional e-news segments, successful female Geoscientist features and others. She is a a real team player, is technically strong in the discipline of Geosciences, has a plethora of diverse skills-set, is high motivated and would surely be an invaluable part of any Team she joins. Her genial personality, humble demeanor, dependability, and creativeness would ensure she is successful wherever. Highly recommended!

Technical Assistant
-
Feb 2016 - Jan 2017
The Seismic Research Centre is responsible for monitoring 13 volcanoes on 7 islands across the region. My role as a technical assistant was to assist with the ground deformation monitoring programme and my duties included data acquisition and processing of the cGPS data using Linux OS and GAMIT/GLOBK software. I prepared a user manual, compiling years of previous procedures into one comprehensive document, aimed at streamlining the data processing procedures at SRC in order to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Additionally, I assisted with other geophysical research specifically on geothermal systems. Show less

GEOLOGIST
-
Jun 2013 - Sep 2014
In the 3D Land Seismic Development Team, I was responsible for the development of leads to prospective drilling targets in the Southern Basin of Trinidad through the evaluation and analysis of well log, seismic and biostratigraphic data. I employed structural and stratigraphic principles in analyses and performed seismic attribute analysis on interpreted seismic data. Prospective drilling targets were risked and evaluated in consultation with reservoir engineers to assess the remaining potential reserves. I was also responsible for preparing geological justification reports and operational drilling updates. Show less

GRADUATE TRAINEE GEOLOGIST
-
Mar 2012 - Jun 2013
HORIZONS GRADUATE TRAINEE PROGRAMMEThe Horizons Graduate Trainee programme is a two year program designed for recent graduates to provide them with the work experience and expertise needed to transition into the organization and function effectively. The initial 6-month rotational phase consisted of short stints through various departments including Petroleum Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Geomatics, Exploration Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering and Geology(Trinmar). These rotations were useful as they provided an understanding of how each department functions and how they interact on a daily basis. I was based in Santa Flora's Exploration & Production unit, in the Prospect Generation department. My responsibilities were to generate prospective drilling targets to increase production in a mature field in the Southern Basin, utilizing well log, seismic and biostratigraphic data. Show less

STUDENT INTERNSHIP
-
Jun 2009 - May 2010
As a student intern at BPTT, I was placed in the Exploration Team where I completed my final year thesis project. The project focused on seismic interpretation, well log correlation, and stratigraphic analysis. I analyzed and integrated multiple data sources including 3D seismic data, well log data, biostratigraphic and outcrop data to develop a 3D model to explain the depositional history of a significant regional reservoir sequence in the Columbus Basin, Trinidad. The project deliverables included a facies catalogue and a regional palaeo-environmental map of the regional sequence using the features observed in seismic attribute analysis and well log patterns. I acquired valuable critical - thinking, analytical, communication & presentation skills and I was also able to work with other interns to organize fundraisers which earned over $20,000 in two months for a local charity.
