  Since joining Sasaki Associates in 2007, Hernán has been involved in a variety of planning and urban design projects of different scales. His primary focus is in developing urban design solutions and recommendations for building siting, massing and programmatic relationships, as well as for large land strategic real estate development, new communities, urban districts and adaptive reuse projects. With over 10 years of experience Hernán has worked on a variety of project types and scales both nationally and internationally, ranging from campus master planning of nearly 476 square kilometers (117,000 acres) of oceanfront expansion district to new community planning of 2,800 acres to 80,000 acres (1,000-24.000 hectares). Having worked on a variety of National and International projects he has a sensibility for not only the local but the metropolitan and international scales, communicating innovative design ideas and connecting the client’s vision with reality. He encourages discussion and debate in every stage of the process in search of the most current thinking and implementation of new ideas. Flexibility and design are two of the most important concepts to be explore in every planning assignments that he embarks on. As a senior designer at Sasaki's Urban Studio, Hernán is a thought leader in developing innovative designs, out-of-the-box master planning solutions and creative community visions. He has a particular interest in incorporating cutting-edge technology in the design process as a means to communicating ideas, informing decision-making, and creating better designs for the built environment.
