Waste Heat Recovery, Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), Innovate UK-sponsored (with Entropea Labs and Mahle Powertrain): - Development of a novel in-house 0D/1D code for the design and off-design simulation of a radial turbine operating with organic fluids. The code calculates and optimizes the expander basic geometry (such as rotor, stator and volute dimensions) prior to the CFD analysis. - Experimental testing of a novel ORC system on a 7.2ℓ heavy duty diesel engine under various engine and ORC operating conditions. Combustion & Emissions: - Experimental investigation of knocking combustion and emissions using an optical single cylinder SI engine and fast response analyzers (NO/NOX,HC) under PFI and DI conditions.
