  Supported the technical aspects of seabird research as it relates to sighting offshore wind power farms. ✓ Developed the hardware and software to facilitate both in-air and underwater hearing tests in seabirds. ✓ Telemetry project to provide information to help site off-shore wind projects. Birds are captured and outfitted with satellite tracking transmitters to allow tracking of the wintering areas used by the birds. ✓ Testing the viability of backpack solar GPS loggers that provide minute-by-minute data that transmit data via the GSM cellular network. This project tested the long-term attachment of devices to several species of seabirds. ✓ Development of a system to capture satellite tracking data from Argos into a database, filter the data based on several criteria, provide data access to partners for their analysis and provide general mapping/GIS abilities to all users. The system was originally developed for the Seaduck Joint Venture but has been expanded to include off-shore wind projects. The data included over 500,000 records covering tagged birds over a 10+ year period. I was part of a NASA-funded project to create tools on Movebank, a database of animal tracking data, for linking animal tracks to remote-sensing environmental data. ✓ Co-ordinated field captures for telemetry tagging of seabirds. This included getting appropriate permits, capture team, and boats required. For night captures, I was also the captain of the crew. Show less

Business and computer consulting to companies from Visa to FMC to Apple to government entities where we created new processes and computer systems supporting thousands of users. Harvard case studies have been written about some of my projects and I won several DOD process improvement awards. Sample of completed projects: ✓ Consulted on the privatization of a Navy Base as a member of the executive management team. The Louisville Navy Depot was closed, and the workload and people turned over to private companies. Through storyboarding and process mapping I facilitated the development of the new organization structures. ✓ Headcount was reduced from 1300 to 700 people. ✓ New process and associated system changes were implemented making the site successful with the reduced headcount. ✓ After successful process and systems changes the staff was reduced by another 200 people, while achieving the same revenue that was generated before with the staff of 1300. ✓ Developed hardware and software proof of concept, utilizing Java imbedded systems to monitor and control environmental systems within a residential or commercial building. Weather stations, flood sensors, weather radio alarms, A/C current sensors, light sensors, switches, links to other web-based data, were utilized . Data was distributed via web servers / databases to store and process the data with iPhones / iPads as monitoring consoles. Show less
