I met Gavin through another friend because we needed another programmer for Skater Frogs, a game I helped start. I didn't realize at the time just how vital he would become to the project, and if we didn't have him, the game would definitely not be going as well as it is. He constantly takes it upon himself to make entire systems necessary for whatever he needs to do, and these tools are able to be used by the rest of the team. His programming prowess is a power that can help any game project, and I'm glad I'm able to work with him on multiple projects.

Gavin was an excellent teammate. He is incredibly knowledgable in all aspects of game development, helping us with Unity, building, proper source control, and game vision. Additionally, he was an excellent leader, giving encouragement when things went wrong and praise when things when right. He's very personable, making him easy work work with and get a long. He had a strong vision of our game and helped keep the trajectory of the team in line. When we received feedback from play testers and professionals, he had insightful commentary on how to utilize the feedback we got to make our game better. I would gladly work with Gavin on another project.

Leading a small team of Engineers on improving the architecture and tools of a previously developed game for android and iOS. A large portion of the project has been triaging sections of the code base that will impede future development and reworking them to make them more modular. I've been leading a small team of developers performing Live Ops on MassDiGIs game Merge Critters. While leading the team we've been using an analytical approach to determine what our next task should be, aiming to raise our D1 before we worry about any of our longer term retention.I've also been working with the art and design team to create tools that will shorten our artistic pipeline.

Over the summer I worked as an assistant producer and programmer with a team of 5 other people to create a mobile game. Mass DiGI gave us almost complete autonomy allowing us to have full control of the studio and the game’s direction. During preproduction we broke down the genres we were interested in and developing a full taxonomy on each one allowing us to enter the rapid prototyping. Over the next few days we worked on 6 different white boxes within Unity, quickly iterating off each one and getting feed back from other developers within the company. Eventually we narrowed our idea down to an active idle game with a main mechanic of merging units together to get stronger ones.During production we utilized the Kanban Methodology, we worked hard on creating a clean code base that was easily readable with minimal reliance on dependencies. A few weeks into development we had the opportunity to get feed back on our games from other professionals within the field, this proved to be invaluable to our team. The other developers pointed out that the game wasn’t as intuitive as we would had hoped, so with the feed back we pivoted towards a design that was more readable. This was a hard decision for the team since it meant throwing out a lot of the work, but it was a crucial decision that defined the rest of the summer for us. We have successfully prepared the game for soft launch on Android and IOS along with a solid plan on how to expand the game further. Show less

I lead a team of 4 other developers working with Philips Medical on an application to make adapting to the HoloLens easier for medical professionals. Our team had no AR experience so there was a large learning curve for the team. Our first challenge that we faced was understanding what to teach someone who was new to the HoloLens and someone who didn’t often work with technology. Testing with medical professionals and getting feed back from was crucial for the early stages of the project. Once we had gotten enough feedback we developed an AR version of tic tac toe, a game that everyone knew how to play. Show less

Programmer on JumpSTART Triage, a simulator for emergency 1st responders developed with Yale Medical School. JumpSTART Triage has been in the in the worked on for three years and developed a bad case of project decay. What I did during my time on the project was to clean up and refactor current systems and code to improve performance along with ripping out older systems that no longer were relevant to game play. One of the systems that I had refactored was the spawning system. The previous system couldn't spawn patients in small areas along with having predictable spawn locations. The new system that I created allowed points to be painted on (as long as the space was large enough) and control what types of patients could spawn there. Managed building for the whole project, built and signed weekly windows and mac builds for the projects along with writing version notes for each different build. Show less

New Freshman moved in a week early, through out that week me and my fellow colleagues helped them make the transition to college. Throughout this week we would work closely with the freshman and encourage them to start socializing with each other. Along with that I was there to answer any questions or point them to the right person who could answer that question.

As a New Student Orientation Leader our main priority was to make sure that freshman were adapting well to Becker College. Our training consisted of long days of team bonding, speech preparation, schedule reviews, and decorations. During the orientation we lead around the freshman and introduced them to the campus but our biggest priority was to ensure that every freshman felt at home.
