I don't want to talk about Joe Johnson the ACD we all know and love. He's clearly spectacular at what he does and adds value and all that. Instead, I'd like to talk about a different Joe Johnson, one that exists in a parallel dimension where Joe Johnson never grew up to be a designer or work in advertising at all. The Joe Johnson I want to talk about is a cab driver who gets you to the airport in 15 minutes no matter where you're coming from. His cab smells amazing and he's always willing to change the radio station and he never makes a big deal out of it. The Joe Johnson I want to talk about is an architect who had an idea and the other architects were all "WHAT?! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" Guess what? It's called the Burj Dubai. Look it up. The Joe Johnson I want to talk about is a famous scientist who found a cure for the common cold in a dream and forgot to write it down. Then he cured cancer the next day so he was like, "Whatevz." The Joe Johnson I want to talk about is an Osprey soaring majestically across the American Northwest, spotting a meal and licking his beak, then deciding at the last possible second to spare the humble cod in search of bigger challenge: a shark, maybe a whale or a walrus. He's hungry, but not for food. There are many Joe Johnsons across many parallel dimensions, but there's only one here at R/GA, and that, my friends, is the most special Joe Johnson of them all. Hats off to you, Joe. You're not an Osprey, but you'll do.

i have no idea what an assoc. design director is, but joe is an extremely creative, extremely thoughtful, extremely PATIENT associate creative director/creative director. i really enjoyed working with him on the crown royal site launch and its many, many collateral pieces and was very impressed with the work he did on the buellit redesign. joe is definitely the man.
