Aanya was a primary contact when I was hired to produce videos for the inaugural TEDxRISD event. She exhibited clear communication, engaged listening, and was apt to tackle challenges as they arose with a solutions focused energy. As a video producer, I value clients that are clear about their needs, timely in their feedback and correspondence, and can productively imagine proposed approaches to agree on what best serves the project- Aanya embodied all of those characteristics. I would happily work with Aayna again, and I believe she would be an agent for progress leading complex teams and initiatives.

Centering on recycling and promoting sustainable consumption, my efforts are directed towards collaborating with waste pickers and their children in order to carry out fundamental research related to waste management. I am in the process of devising innovative tools and playful methodologies to enhance the educational journey of these children while also tackling more extensive issues such as climate change, poverty, gender equality, nutrition, and environmentally friendly livelihoods. Additionally, I am engaged in partnering with waste pickers to explore strategies for leveraging design and waste materials to uplift their livelihoods. This project is supported by the Maharam fellowship, generously funded by New York-based textile company Maharam. This program supports selected RISD students in creating summer internships across the globe, focused on advancing social justice and/or sustainability. Show less

Studio Luz Architects is a Boston-based architectural firm that works with underrepresented communities to collaboratively shape the built environment. I worked on an affordable housing project in Boston, MA which has a deep history of neglect. Worked closely with community groups that put the residents of the community first. Worked collaboratively with community groups and gained insight into how major decisions concerning the aesthetics and practical design of the building are informed by the local community. Also, I worked on Retail Interaction design for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Volpe Redevelopment project in Kendall Square. Conducted extensive research, created graphics, and devised a Retail Programming Size-Function Matrix. Show less

Postmarked is an annual publication that showcases the interdisciplinary qualities of architecture through student’s writing and image-making. Each issue has a different theme that will both cross physical borders and disciplinary boundaries. The publication consists of a collection of ‘postcards’ written and selected by students engaging with the built environment on a local, national, or global scale. Postmarked namesake encapsulates our international student body population and positions the architectural discipline in different contexts. Show less
