Christina is not only collaborative, genuine, and determined but she is also a strong leader. Christina brings positivity and light to the workplace. She has natural skills such as leadership and showing empathy for those around her. I will never forget when I was having a rough day, Christina took time out of her day to write me a note & put some candy on my desk to cheer me up. It was a small gesture that was very impactful! I still keep that note taped on my desk as a reminder when I'm having tough days. That is just one way that Christina has shown how she genuinely cares for those around her, inside and outside of the workplace. Christina will go out of her way to check on you and make sure to ask, "Is there anything I can do to help?" She would be a great asset to any team or workplace! I am thankful to have worked alongside Christina.

Korol/Gold Lab:Attempts to understand neural mechanisms of learning and memory, focusing on how changes in cell signaling and metabolic state influence neural components. Particular emphasis on neurochemical and hormonal regulation to understand cognitive aging under healthy and pathological conditions.A Case for 'Metamodulation' Through Physical and Cognitive ActivityLearning and memory enhancements following physical activity. We have new results showing cognitive activity enhances subsequent cognitive function in a manner similar to physical activity. Our data point to the role of cell signaling pathways involving BDNF and modulation of neuronal and glial metabolism in metamodulation.Opposing Actions of EstrogensIn rodents, we found that estrogens act at different brain sites to enhance or impair some cognitive functions. Rats select different strategies for solving tasks depending on circulating estrogen levels during estrous cycle. A current project examines how activation of traditional and novel ER subtypes regulate different types of learning and memory.Paradoxical Memory Improvements in Parkinson’s Disease (PD)Aims to identify pre-motor stages of PD by cognitive phenotyping and examine accompanying metabolic and cell biological changes. We use 2 rodent models of PD to examine changes in brain and behavior that may precede massive degeneration in dopamine system, providing an early diagnostic tool that would allow the development of interventions that could prevent or attenuate progression.A Synaptic Model of PTSDExamines synaptic models of memory and forgetting across the lifespan. Using standard neurophysiological models of long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD) of synaptic strength, our lab tests the possibility that forgetting reflects an active mechanism involving synaptic plasticity modulated by hormonal state.Approaches and methods: Westerns, immunocytochemistry, ELISAs, RIAs, HPLC for signal transduction molecules.
