I administer 25 physical servers, about 40 virtual servers, a Shoretel phone system and roughly 120 users in nine sites.I'm responsible for the day-to-day upkeep and also research/planning/deployment of hardware refreshes and new technologies.Since I started in 2008 I've completely rebuilt the network by restructuring the IP scheme, implementing best practices and instituting documentation policies. Some notable projects completed thus far:- Completely redesigned the network infrastructure from the top down. Totally new wire runs, fiber for long haul uplinks and redesigned server room.- Updated Active Directory domain from 2000 to 2003 then to 2008- Researched, planned and deployed a 42Kw natural gas backup generator for server room- Deployed a 3 node Terminal Server 2003 cluster (about 60 users)- Restructured IP scheme to incorporate a unified addresses scheme and network segmnetation for for PCI compliance- Designed a two-tier storage and backup solution that gives users access to copies of their work for a period of two weeks and then long term archival storage to tape.- Created network maps and a basis for documentation- Deployed a secure client VPN system using a Cisco ASA 5510 firewall

My responsibilities at VOA were very diverse. I did everything from the standard day-to-day tasks like rotating backup tapes and creating mail archives in Exchange to racking servers, deploying desktop imaging servers, developing websites for streaming media and researching new equipment and software. I was permanently stationed at one of CompuCom's largest accounts (at the time). I was responsible for responding to desktop and printer support tickets sent over from phone support. Myself and two others troubleshooted and resolved any desktop or printer related issues for the 1500+ users in the building. Unlike other organizations where there might be separate hardware and software teams; I was responsible for both.During my time with CompuCom, I had the highest amount of closed tickets for my team, I never went over SLA and I created troubleshooting bootdisks that allowed myself and the rest of the team to quickly and accurately diagnose computer problems.
