At its peak, it supported 20 employees and earned $2.5M annually. My primary role was to help capitalize the business through client technology consulting, and we specialized in Green Tech initiatives. A Few Notable Achievements: ▸ Invented a method that combines battery storage with photovoltaic cells, which can increase electricity bill savings from 50% to 100%. This works by qualifying the customer for more favorable rates while reducing battery cycles. ▸ Serve as a Board Member for San Diego Energy District, an organization that advocates for clean, local energy at lower prices through CCAs (Community Choice Aggregations). ▸ Found an algorithm and coded the automation software for energy optimization which resulted in a 30% reduction in costs. ▸ Developed the software for analyzing smart meter data better than competitors.   Clarient was a VC funded startup and leading cancer diagnostic medical device manufacturer. I held many titles including VP of R&D, CTO, CIO, and Software Engineer. I directed a team of 20 engineers through several software and hardware projects and inventions, and we worked in an FDA and ISO9000 compliant environment. I also managed the company’s impressive IP portfolio, including all legal matters, drove M&A efforts, and participated in VC raises. Achievements: ▸ Raised three series of VC from B to D, totaling $75M ▸ Facilitated the successful M&A of Clarient’s Instrument Division ▸ Managed the due diligence of several other M&As, ensuring risk-free transactions ▸ Resolved a regulatory issue with the FDA that halted the marketability of a flagship product ▸ Invented several key technologies – 41 inventions sold and 52 moved into patent pending ▸ Derived a Her2/neu breast cancer gene detection algorithm that is now used in 1/3 of all breast cancer cases in the U.S. Show less

  AI was a medical device startup that I founded. Its main purpose was to invent color imaging instruments and software for biomedicine and medical packaging solutions. Funded only by SBIRs, it grew into a 30-employee business that lasted for 10 years before being acquired by Oncor. In addition to running the business, I also acted as Principle Scientist and Lead Software Architect. I directed all areas of business strategy, P&L, research, IP, and M&A. After it sold to Oncor, I stayed on for an additional 4 years as VP of R&D. Achievements: ▸ Won seven SBIR grants totaling $2.4M ▸ Drove the negotiation toward the sale of AI to Oncor ▸ Played a key role in helping Oncor win a new round of Series B funding ▸ Invented several notable technologies including a Color Packaging Inspection system capable of reading color at 4M objects per hour, and a Color Image Analyzer, the first low light type developed for biomedicine ▸ Won three UCSD Connect Most Innovative Awards Show less
