I know Elisha from my work at Architecture for Humanity where I taught her in an independent research study and design course in social architecture in conjunction with the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to being a talented young architectural designer, Elisha is also an accomplished ballerina and ballroom dancer. By listening carefully to guidance and injecting her own style of innovation, she chose a program exploring dance-for-social-change models of community engagement as an expansion to existing sports-for-social-change projects commonly used to revitalize communities. In Elisha’s research, she discovered youth and adolescence are pivotal ages in the development of social values. The basis of her thesis was ballet, like soccer (football), has a set of universally understood rules requiring cooperation for success. These rules transcend language and other barriers, facilitating cross-cultural exchange with improved comfort and trust, through play and performance. Elisha set up a test case for her thesis and research targeting Russian, Ukrainian and Tartar ethnic groups. Her research was very compelling, and she received a grant to do on-the-ground analysis in the U.K., Germany, Poland and Ukraine. Elisha’s experiences provided her with a valuable set of skills. She understands the core principles of design, construction, and community spaces, and the need to combine them with participatory community programs to be effective in addressing social challenges. Elisha’s communications skills—visual, verbal, graphical—are excellent, and she has a very strong work ethic. I can confidently say hiring someone with Elisha’s good nature, passion and intelligence would yield high returns.
Liz Sizensky
Elisha helped create a graphic identity for the UC Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office that aligned with new university branding initiatives. She designed banners, table coverings, postcards, print and web ads, flyers, posters, web graphics, and PowerPoint presentations that successfully and professionally carried the new brand design forward. Elisha is highly intelligent, hardworking, reliable, creative, and resourceful. She works well independently and is conscientious about completing projects on time. Elisha's skills and talents would be great assets to any organization. I recommend her highly.
