Tristan is one of those rare people who combines his passion and determination with good humour and strong technical skills for every project he does. I met him at the Metis Data Science Bootcamp when I was a visiting instructor from Singapore. During those 3 months, he demonstrated his excellent capabilities as an individual contributor. I remembered during his fourth project, he used a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) to generate interesting text trained from a lot of religious text. Take note that at that point, we have not taught the class RNN and he picked up everything on his own. Needless to say, his creative project topic and smooth delivery was a highlight for everyone at his presentation. Tristan would be a valuable asset to any company. Personally, I would love to work with Tristan again under any circumstances and I give him my full recommendation.

Developed several Data Science projects as part of a highly selective 3-month immersive program, utilizing various machine learning and statistical modeling methods Predicting A Healthcare Provider’s Cost to the U.S. Government • Created a regression model with an R squared of 0.92 to predict how much a healthcare provider will spend on Medicare patients every year • Acquired data from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services of 990,000 healthcare providers • Used Ordinary Least Squares with Ridge and LASSO regularization Predicting Lyme Disease Epidemic • Built a climate-based classification model with a ROC AUC of 0.96 to predict which U.S. counties will have a high incidence of Lyme Disease, the fastest growing contagious disease in the world at the time • Engineered a dataset from scratch by merging Center for Disease Control data with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration climate data which was parsed from 78,000 CSV files • Used K-Nearest Neighbors, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines and Random Forest algorithms optimized with grid search A Divinely Inspired Text Generator • Built a Flask app with generative text model that can output divinely inspired religious sermons based on the King James Bible, the Quran, and the Torah • Used NLP techniques to do Sentiment Analysis using Vader and Textblob and to create LSTM Recurrent Neural Nets with Keras and Tensorflow Predicting Emergency Medical Service Demand • Built 10 location-based time series models for each fire battalion in San Fransisco to predict how many ambulances will be needed every 30 minutes • Acquired 20 years of fire department data from the San Francisco Open Data Portal. • Used SARIMA, Croston TSB, and LSTM recurrent neural networks Show less
