As a social studies instructor for the Waynesville R-VI School District, I work diligently each day to support the successful academic, social, and personal growth of young adolescents. In addition to teaching geographic, cultural, economic, and governmental concepts through world geography, I mentor students in class, during additional academic assistance hours, and during advisory times to encourage and support their development as leaders, citizens, and community members. My teaching adapts to the wide behavioral, cognitive, and emotional needs of my students as well as the diverse backgrounds that they bring into the classroom community. I bring my enthusiasm and drive to collaborative efforts in my role as a department team member and grade level team teacher to support students, improve our department teaching practices, and address a wide variety of topics in our curriculum and student body. I ask questions, seek research-based resources, and routinely seek new opportunities to grow my teaching practices both as an individual and team member.

In my role as a Social Studies Instructor, I teach a Contemporary Global Issues course for high school seniors. The course is designed around the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals that also serve as the foundation for the senior service-learning capstone projects, called Peace Projects. In addition to mentoring Peace Project groups and guiding students through the completion of various Peace Project components designated in the social studies curriculum, I strive to make a course that is flexible to the changing events of the world while also focusing on major concepts and widely-applicable skills. My work as the Administrative Assistant to the Student Office includes a variety of tasks, including maintaining accurate attendance records, communicating information that is accurate and up-to-date to students and their families, greeting and assisting visitors to the school, and assisting administrators with various projects and tasks.

    • Teaching Intern
      • Jan 2019 - May 2019

As a teaching intern, I worked alongside a veteran teacher in the classroom. I assumed the role of the classroom teacher, handling all lesson planning, grading, assessment design and administration, and day-to-day routines. Most importantly, I built strong relationships with students in class as well as supporting them in their sports, musical endeavors, and other activities. In addition to the teaching responsibilities of my internship, I completed an action research project (required as part of my Master's coursework) that aimed to identify if keyword phrases or sentence starters helped students achieve a higher level of task completion success on term identification tasks.
