Despite its name, my role as Product Manager was not typical.In DHL the Product Manager role corresponded more to that of an IT Manager fully responsible for services delivered to a specific part of the DHL business. In my case I was responsible for the Freight business including full P&L responsibility (6.5M EUR per year).Because DHL business units are free to purchase IT services from our competitors, my main objectives were to maintain a close relationship with customers (in cooperation with the Account Managers), increase market share and revenue, while fine tuning the development and support processes to insure the delivery of high quality IT services and keeping costs under control.- Responsible for the portfolio of services offered to the European Freight business units.- Managed the development and evolution of the Freight IT products. - Managed the relationship with the customers and exploited new opportunities to increase the market share.- Led a matrix organization of 6 project managers, 8 developers, 4 business analysts and one product expert in addition to teams of developers from multiple different suppliers near-shore and off-shore.Major achievements:- Freight sub-domain's revenue increased from 5m Eur to 6,5m Eur in 2008.- Development teams and delivery capacity expanded to match the demand while maintaining the quality of the services delivered.- Project teams remained focused and productive during a prolonged period of uncertainty due to major organizational changes.
