I worked with Mike O'Shields on a daily basis from November of 2001 until December of 2008, when I transferred to another location. To say that Mike is the key player in the quality engineering function is no understatement. Mike wears many hats - quality engineer, trainer, software developer, database administrator, quality systems engineer, problem solver, process launch member, etc - and wears them all with aplomb. Mike has an unflappable, straightforward, and pragmatic approach to problems, quickly reducing huge issues to task-level components and establishing no-nonsense plans on how to succeed. He does not believe in telling you what you'd like to hear, but delivers facts and well-reasoned timelines for completion of issues. Mike does a great job mentoring beginning engineers and helping them grow and gain new knowledge. His approachability makes him a great trainer for all levels of the organization, while his deep experience in the field allows him to creat excellent training materials with precise audience targeting. I've seen first hand that Mike can quickly assimilate new information himself, and immediately put it to work, effectively. Finally, Mike's integrity in the job increases his value exponentially. He carries the gravity of his knowledge and a great deal of credibility into any conversation, and always immerses himself in the issues at hand to good effect. I would recommend Mike without reservation.

Mike is currently in the Advanced Launch Manufacturing Quality function performing specific product process planning for new business. In parallel, he also is the Quality systems development engineer serving old and new operations. Mike sets very high standards for himself as well as those within his circle. Mike has the outstanding ability to reduce a higher level objective into a series of activities and assignments that meets all deliverables on time at the lowest cost. Mike is a strong advocate to solving problems as a team and holds a deciding seat on applicable management decsions. Mike is motivated internally to do a thorough job.
