"Karylle Phillips is highly experienced both personally and professionally in the social work field. She has the ability to envisage and create effective models of working and produce effective training packages for professionals, that can improve the long term outcomes for looked after children." I have begun creating training packages for foster carers, social workers, students and other professionals surrounding; building positive relationships with young people, authentic engagement and participation, advocacy, children's rights and diverse professional role recognition. In addition to this, I provide 1:1 mentoring and coaching to care leavers and young people facing challenges. This includes; teenage parents & young offenders. I offer motivational speaking at conferences and events. On a variety of issues facing young people. Due to my teaching experience i provide opportunities to education establishments in the design and delivery of social work modules. Creating a deeper understanding for students into the social work role; children's rights and promotion of fostering. I'm currently in the process of writing 3 short books for training purposes around fostering, siblings in care and how to parent if you've never had parenting. These will provide a realistic critical view of issues but also provide a humorous story using my personal journey through care. Show less

I am very passionate about improving the poor outcomes for care leavers especially within the areas of education and independent living. I currently partake in ocassional work which involves telling my personal story of my care experiences to promote acheivements and highlight areas for development within childrens services. I travel campaigning and advocating for agencies that are providing high quality care for looked after children and spend some time being involved in the training of prospective foster carers and new staff for local authorities and private fostering agencies. I have travelled internationally to run workshops and create care leavers groups that are authentic and respected. Iam dedicated to supporting care leavers with transitions into adulthood. Ultimately promoting young care leavers, advocate for them, provide effective tools for independent living, offer long term emotional support and ultimately.. Care when everyone else appears to stop caring! Show less

I have over the years been involved with the uni. I have had several roles from taking part in research to marking students work, but i mainly teach BA and MA social work students. Particularly the looked after child modules. The aim is to give students the information to consider a different view - the viewpoint of a LAC. Whilst providing them with firsthand experience coupled with stimulating learning experiences that last. I have over the years been involved with the uni. Training foster carers is what iam known best for. I provide carers with the skills, knowledge and thinking to envisage better working with young people. Help them to understand childrens rights, advocate authentically for them and recognise the importance of their roles. The aim is to empower foster carers to take more of a responsibility, be more involved when meeting and discussing the childs needs and promote & remind them of the great work they are doing.Promoting 'Foster a Birmingham child' was a great experience. I had the opportunity to meet so many carers across Birmingham who worked extremly hard but with very little effort made huge differences in the lives of other young people. I did countless interviews both radio and newspaper, i featured in the promotional DVD's, I campaigned for more foster carers with the Birmingham Team in Birmingham city centre and attempted to increase awareness around fostering and hopefully provide some of the amazing reasons why people should foster.
