PhD in Biology with Industrial Placement
-
Oct 2012 - Dec 2016
My PhD focused on identification and optimisation of novel potential drugs against a protein that drives formation and growth of a number of human cancers, building on my experience in this field developed during my BSc Final Year Project. Over the course of 4 years I developed strong transferable skills that I can leverage in any discipline. These include: - interpersonal skills, built by supporting and providing training to my peers in their project work; - communication skills, demonstrated via internal departmental, laboratory and 1:1 meetings and prize-winning external presentations at international conferences; - organisational skills from balancing multiple projects, reports/publications, contribution to group projects, laboratory management, and conference attendance; - and analytical skills, from generation and interrogation of content-rich datasets. I also demonstrated ability to work in diverse academic and SME environments, and published my research in respected, high impact scientific journals. Show less

Work experience placement under the supervision of Dr Ahmed-Al Alawi, then Senior Process Analyst at Genzyme Haverhill Operations. I completed a self-managed small-scale study into the most optimal conditions for use in scaled-up production of a powdered drug to strict specifications, using an analytical technique new to me at the time. I gained an appreciation of a commercial environment, and my technical report was presented by my supervisor to the Department Head.
