English and Social Studies Educator
-
May 2015 - Sep 2022
I taught adult learners from around the world different text structures as they develop their proficiency with written English. I placed an emphasis on patterns of writing as they explore "ways of thinking" such as "compare and contrast", "cause and effect", "classification", "problem and solution", and "sequential" approaches to knowing the world. Students studied content in both social studies and science as they build familiarity as readers and writers with these text structures. Sep 2012 - May 2015
During the fall semester of 2012 I taught Introduction to College Writing with a focus on critical reading and writing and preparing students to be effective academic writers. Beginning in the spring semester 2013 I taught Expository Writing where students developed competencies in academic research and writing. I also worked as a writing coach at the Center for Academic Support and Advising where I wrote a curriculum for reading which will be used to supplement struggling readers during the first year at FSU. In addition to my on-campus course load, I taught courses in a pilot program FSU set up with a local high school as a part of the PARCC initiative.
