I have had the pleasure of working with Makeba for the past several years as a fellow Executive Board Member of YNPN Chicago. In that time, I have observed Makeba providing leadership, energy and enthusiasm towards the goal of helping our organiztion achieve its mission and vision in the best way possible. Makeba lends a unique voice and perspective to our group and is someone our Board can always count on.

Makeba has a range of knowledge and skill around all things art and culture. I find her ability to make connections among ideas and apply them in new ways to be consistently smart, savvy, and engaging. Makeba served as a moderator for a panel discussion I organized on Black representation in art. (The panel was part of a series of conversations, happenings, and performances relating to art, culture and the politics of aesthetics.) I gave her a general idea of how I wanted the discussion to flow, the ideas I wanted to tease out, and a little information about the panel participants and what kind of audience I hoped would attend. Without fail, she created timely, prescient questions that related to each panelist's speciality in the field as well as the overarching themes of the discussion. As a moderator, she moved a challenging conversation along seamlessly and amicably, leaving room for audience input and also encouraging continued conversation at the end of the event. She delivered well beyond my expectations and really made the panel a significant starting point for departure in the discourse. Makeba is simply great!

I consult with executive staff to determine the scope of projects, research and interview methodologies, applicable data collection approaches, and industry-specific trends. I am responsible for implementing innovative ways for the Museum’s diverse stakeholders, which include students, faculty, staff, alumnae, the Atlanta University Center communities, artists, community groups, and general audiences, to engage the institution's featured exhibitions and permanent collection. In addition, I serve as a liaison with the College and develop educational initiatives that broaden the Museums' impact on campus.I plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs and contribute to increasing visibility and communicating that the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is the only museum in the nation that emphasizes art by and about women of the African Diaspora.
