A considerable variety in the nature of the experiments, research projects, sophistication and age of the equipment and theoretical level of competence of students exists within the incumbent’s work place. • Assisting the Project Engineer in the production of necessary specifications and metalwork drawings required for work to be carried out by the Faculty’s support workshop, and the fabrication process when necessary. • Organizing and performing regular maintenance programs for the increasingly complex and varied laboratory equipment. • Ensuring that equipment within the Concrete and Structures laboratories are functional due to the high risk involved in the handling of the materials and structural components. • Assisting academic and technical staff with research and consulting projects especially in the Concrete and Structural laboratories, by the manufacturing and scheduling of these projects through the workshops and laboratories in order to meet deadlines. • Under routine direction provide assistance to undergraduate and postgraduate students to ensure that best method of design and manufacture are employed so that the projects meet their objectives. • Implementing the construction of test specimens and assemblies, of apparatus and of the test frames in the laboratories for the undergraduate, postgraduate students and for the consulting projects. • Calibrations of load cells • Assisting in running the practical classes held in the Concrete and structural laboratories in conjunction with the academic staff. • Arranging for the testing of laboratory projects and fitting test set-ups with instrumentation and data-logging equipment.
