Educational Psychologist - Academic Support Co-ordinator
-
Jan 2016 - Dec 2019
My duties as Academic Support Co-ordinator within the Bishops Support Unit include ensuring learners' special education needs are met. This includes ensuring that individual student learning needs case management is top priority. Initial learning challenges are investigated and appropriate referrals for assessment or support are made. The role also entails psycho-education for parents regarding various learning concerns. Support plans are co-constructed with the parents, students and support team. Students' psycho-educational assessment results and support needs are communicated to teachers and support is given to help manage the facilitation of such support. Students are supported individually with remedial executive functioning skills, study skills, and performance anxiety management skills, and the learning support team of 3 teachers is supervised and supported. Professional development presentations facilitation for teachers on a variety of educational topics occurs on a termly basis. Students are accommodated with concessions in their internal school exams, and supporting the application process to the Western Cape Education Department. Together with the Sports Development teacher, the Bursary Student Support Programme has been developed over 2019, which involves management and supervision of support initiatives for boys from Grade 8 to 12. They interact in a blended learning format with a combination of face-to-face sessions as well as synchronous and asynchronous interaction with their peers and the material. Students complete the course with a teacher blog that doubles as an e-Portfolio, housing many of the tools that they learn in the course. Show less
