As President of the UNSW Education Society, I have been fortunate to oversee Nadia's immense contribution to the student community comprising of over 1,500 Education Students. Whilst she currently occupies the role as an Internals Director, her commitment and dedication to our mission has truly become an asset for the team. Outside of her usual responsibilities, Nadia has collaborated with me to co-design and lead a 1.5 hour workshop focused on empowering pre-service teachers to access the tools of LinkedIn. As I review her design and content of our workshop, I wish to note her eye for detail, organisation and her deep understanding of what it takes to engage an audience. Her contributions as a team player, and her initiative to step up as a leader have been instrumental to the society's success. I leave with high recommendations for Nadia.

As Director of the UNSW Education Society Internals Portfolio, I exercised leadership and planning skills by working closely with Subcommittee members, as well as Vice-Presidents and President to coordinate events throughout the year. My responsibilities in this role included: - Managing events within the executive committee (meetings, dinners, social events, professional development road trip) - Facilitating close bonds between executive members - Providing opportunities for professional development through public workshops (Learn LinkedIn: Teachers’ Edition) - Recruiting Subcommittee members and Peer Mentors through a structured interview process The experience enhanced my skills in effective scheduling, organisation, communication and execution.

My first Professional Experience placement at co-educational St Ives High School provided me with the opportunity to independently teach over 25 Music lessons to a range of students from Years 7, 8 and Year 11 (Preliminary HSC Music 1). I was able to develop my classroom management skills and effectively differentiate lessons when planning for gifted students and students with special needs. When conducting practical exams for Year 7 Keyboard and Year 8 Guitar, I was able to create meaningful assessment for students with diverse learning needs (low literacy, developmental disorders and hearing impairment). I developed original classroom learning resources and activities that catered for all abilities, from Year 7 students with high prior knowledge of music, to Year 11 students with minimal understanding of the Concepts of Music. After 4 lessons, these Year 11 students were able to critically analyse Classical music forms through the concept of Structure. My engagement with the school community beyond the classroom added to my holistic experience of secondary Music teaching. I gained experience in band conducting, through weekly Concert Band and Jazz Combo rehearsals. I supervised these students on their performance excursion to Engadine BandFest. I assisted throughout Multicultural Day and at the school concert, thereby participating in the additional roles that Music teachers contribute to high school life. Furthermore, by observing lessons in other KLA’s such as English (ESL), History, Visual Arts and Design and Technology, I was influenced by a broad range of teaching strategies and classroom configurations. Upon completion of my 4 week practicum, I returned to St Ives High School to participate in the Year 8 Music Performance Showcase. Though many students had learned guitar with me for the first time, their effort to perform my arrangement of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” for 2 vocalists, acoustic, electric, bass guitar and drums was immensely rewarding.

The Beyond The Bridge initiative gave me the valuable opportunity to experience school life in the outer metropolitan area of Western Sydney. During the visit, I observed the excellent teaching and learning strategies within the school community and beyond. I was able to discuss with Music teachers, how to navigate diverse student populations in order to best support differentiated learning products and processes. As part of my Professional Engagement for the BMus(Hon)/BEd as a Teacher Education Student, I was placed at Pymble Ladies' College and immersed myself in the school culture. I gained 14 days of valuable experience assisting regular Kindergarten classes. Additionally, I critically observed Year 1 & 2 Orff based Music lessons, Year 7-12 Music classes (including HSC Music 2 and Extension) and Junior Concert Band rehearsals. I embraced the opportunity to develop my practical understanding of lesson planning and classroom management. I analysed the diverse learning of a variety of young students through whole class literacy and numeracy assessment. Furthermore, I closely observed teachers and their strategies in the Preparatory School and High School.
