Seahawk Investment Management LLC is a fund of approximately $1.4 million that is run by finance majors at UNCW. Each year the student team analyzes every sector of the S&P 500 and makes recommendations for new investment opportunities. Stock were selected using a Bloomberg stock screen and then valued using a combination of DCF, multiples, and peer-group pricing valuations. During the spring semester of 2013 I worked with a team of 17 business students responsible for delivering a detailed business strategy for Czech-based DPOV, a rolling stock maintenance and repair company, and daughter company of Czech rail giant Ceske Drahy (CD). We examined financial data, industry trends, and competitors strengths and weaknesses to determine the most profitable and practical course of action for the company going forward.
