I am motivated by making agriculture investment portfolios and individual investments accessible to institutional investors. Agriculture is an asset class that delivers real benefits to savings and retirement portfolios and is a useful diversifier. It is also an asset class that offers an element of inflation protection as well as exposure to secular themes such as the growth of the middle class consumer in the emerging markets. Milltrust Agricultural Investments ("MAI") provides institutional investors with access to diversified farmland investments in the Southern Hemisphere. Portfolios are designed to provide diversification across geographies, crop types and climatic zones, thereby achieving a balanced and considered risk return profile. MAI has two main strategies; Buy and Lease and Global Diversified. The Buy and Lease strategy enables investors to reduce exposure to operational and commodity price risk. Investments are focused on fully developed and cash-flow positive farms, leased to experienced lessee operators. The Diversified Global strategy aims to operate farms (together with local specialists) to achieve operational and infrastructure improvements in order to enhance value. MAI acts as the sub-advisor to a collective farmland investment fund vehicle (ICAV) as well as offering bespoke segregated portfolios. The British Innovation Fund provides investors with exposure to high performing portfolios and spin-out companies from top UK Universities in the areas of animal science, life science and technology.
