My task was to develop a class of digging tools, termed drag bit inserts, that would increase cost-effectiveness of tunneling projects. 2) Surrounding the central topic of Zirconium carbide (ZrC) using various methods to create composites and protective coatings for industrial high-temperature applications. These applications extend from shielding materials for nuclear fuel, or aerospace engine parts, to coatings for pipes and parts that must withstand harsh environments.
