Tech Returners provides in-depth hands-on full-stack training following a scheme of learning that is endorsed by industry. I completed weekly JavaScript exercises using TDD and worked with classmates utilising VSCode LiveShare to remote pair-programme. Produced two React applications – one individually and another in a two week group project. Individual Project - My To-Do List https://smbryar.github.io/todo_react_application/ To-Do list responsive app where users can add, complete and remove tasks. Tasks can be set to repeat after completion to aid tracking repeating chores. Extended my learning beyond the course by using React Router to add additional pages, Nivo to display the tasks on a time-graph and user login managed using AWS Cognito. Spent time testing to improve accessibility for a wide range of users. Built in React.js using React Bootstrap, React Router, Nivo. REST API built with Node.js, Express, Axios, MySQL, Serverless and hosted on AWS (RDS, Cognito, Lambda). Group Project - GrokIt https://grokitteam.github.io/grokit-frontend/ Responsive app to aid user in practising skills and knowledge at the right time to maximise learning and help users to ‘grok’ it. I wrote the core Fibonacci based function used to space out the practice and contributed features and fixes to the full stack. Our team worked remotely utilising Zoom for Stand Up and pair-programming, and a GitHub Kanban board to track tasks. We utilised Git version control, reviewing each other’s work before merging into master. Conducted a five week individual project on new heat treatments for currently used steel. This involved researching, designing and testing heat treatments. I developed and refined microscopy techniques to investigate produced grain structure and presented my findings to Head of Design and other colleagues. Alongside this project I also helped analyse failed car components after races. Conducted a five week individual project on new heat treatments for currently used steel. As part of my degree course I chose to develop my teaching skills by observing and teaching weekly in a local school. I observed and helped in a Year 9 Chemistry class and then wrote and implemented lesson plans for two lessons. For these lessons I produced materials for class activities to teach covalent bonding in a fun and educational manner. I also used the IT resources for quizzes. Afterwards I wrote a report analysing the teaching techniques I had observed and used. Spent one week carrying out electronic measurements to ensure uniformity in microchips. I noticed what turned out to be very problematic noise on one of the chip designs that was about to be put into production. At the end of the week I was offered a year-long placement to be taken during or after my degree. Spent one week carrying out electronic measurements to ensure uniformity in microchips.
