Jamsheed originally reached out to me because I worked at LinkedIn. As the president of Los Altos Hacks, he was trying to find a venue that would fit 400 students for a 24-hour hackathon. I asked a variety of different departments and people to see whether they could help me, and they all disappointed me and him. At first he told me Los Altos Hacks didn't have the money to pay for a venue, but a few months passed, and they somehow were able to raise the money. Even after that, my own employer refused to host them because of logistical difficulties. But each time I gave him some bad news, he simply thanked me and told me that he was not giving up, he was trying other options. I reached out to a community mailing list and got some other suggestions, such as asking local community colleges or other large venues, which I passed on to him. He told me that I was the only person out of the hundreds of people he has asked who kept trying to help him. Eventually, Jamsheed was able to find a suitable venue. His persistence is extraordinary and incredibly rare. I believe that he is going to go very far in life, because it is persistence, not talent, that primarily determines one's success. As Thomas Edison famously said, genius is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration.
