  In my third year at St Andrews, the water polo club grew to include a second women's team and one of my teammates and I were given the opportunity to coach. I had limited coaching experience, but I had always been interested in coaching. In our first season we performed better than expected and won the Scottish 1A League. Unfortunately, due to Covid our second season games did not happen. We were still able to train for the first semester, during which I took the Scottish Student Sport Coaching Course. Coaching and managing the second team was deeply rewarding and I found that the skills and concepts that I learned in the course were a valuable addition to my experience. Show less

  The Saints Water polo club has grown from strength to strength in the past few years. In 2019, after winning the BUCS Championship, Women's Water Polo was named Team of the Year at the University of St Andrews Sports Awards. The following year the club grew to include a second team, that I was given the opportunity to coach. As the captain of the women's team for almost four years, I was involved in organising team events, award ceremonies and travel, as well as coaching practices, running meetings and leading during games. During my time as captain, I created a playbook, team policies and systems for increased efficiency and fairness in the club. I learned valuable communication and management skills through my experiences liaising between coaches, management staff and the members of the team, which have afforded me confidence in my teamwork, project management and people skills.   As President of the Springboks, I was involved in creating opportunities for students to connect during the pandemic. Despite the challenges posed by Covid, the society had a very successful year. Our documentary-screening collaboration with the Marine Society was awarded a grant for creativity and our Octopus Trail event was awarded Best In-person Event of the year at the annual Societies Awards for 2020-2021. In addition, we maintained a solid base of membership and increased our social media presence. Show less

  I was involved in a community project to deliver Accessibility Guides to businesses for tourists that require transparency when booking accommodation, meals or activities. The project included the development of an app for presentation of the accessibility and disability information as well the establishment of a free beach wheelchair service on West Sands. The project aimed to improve the experience of St Andrews for tourists and locals whose lives are limited by physical accessibility and difficulty in accessing relevant information. Show less
