Drafted out of high school by the Royals in the 2009 MLB draft but chose to play baseball at the University of Kansas. During 4 year career at KU, was a two-time team Gold Glove Award winner as a shortstop (2012, 2013) and set an NCAA record in sacrifices per game (0.64) in 2013. Also named to the 2013 Big 12 Conference All-Tournament Team. Graduated from the University of Kansas as a three-time Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll member, three-time Athletic Director honor roll member and a two-time Jayhawk Scholar with a bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral science.
